Many health care organizations have the best of intentions to improve their clinical, operational, and customer service processes, but they fall short of their goals because they lack the internal expertise needed to execute quality improvement strategies effectively and consistently.  Often, these organizations assume their staff has the inherent knowledge necessary to achieve dramatic, sustainable improvement results.

BUT…quality improvement is not merely a mindset.  It is an acquirable skill.  It is a science.

IHI is pleased to offer a two-day interactive workshop designed to provide participants with a framework for organizing and implementing improvement projects, as well as an opportunity to enhance their understanding of quality improvement concepts, tools, techniques, and methods.

What You’ll Learn
As a result of participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the improvement philosophy of Dr. W. Edwards Deming
  • Use the Model for Improvement as a framework to improve quality within their organization. Specific competencies include:
    • Setting appropriate aims
    • Identifying measurement strategies
    • Organizing data
    • Developing tests of change
  • Use the plan-do-study-act (PDSA) cycle to test changes on a small scale, learn from tests, and refine changes to see if there are improvements
  • Build data collection and analysis systems for improvement projects
  • Identify elements for spreading successful changes to additional sites, providers, and/or populations
