Definition
The number of deaths of patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), divided by the number of patient discharges from the ICU (including deaths and transfers).
Goal
Reduce ICU mortality by 20 percent within 12 months.
Data Collection Plan
The ICU Mortality Rate can be obtained monthly from your hospital system or from an ICU log. If deaths of patients admitted to the ICU are rare, teams can measure time between deaths.
