International Initiatives
The International Sepsis Forum (ISF) is a collaborative effort between industry and academia that focuses solely on management of patients with severe sepsis. The ISF is committed to improving the management of sepsis and septic shock by developing an international consensus on the latest understanding of key scientific and clinical issues, and disseminating emerging practice guidelines to researchers, intensivists, and other critical care professionals worldwide.

The ARDS Clinical Network was established in 1994 to hasten the development of effective therapies for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The goal of the Network is to efficiently test promising agents, devices, or management strategies to improve the care of patients with ARDS.

The Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) is the first initiative of its kind to bring together three leading professional organizations in the field of sepsis: the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the International Sepsis Forum. The purpose of the SSC is to create an international collaborative effort to improve the treatment of sepsis and reduce the high mortality rate associated with the condition. The SSC website provides background information on sepsis, identifies individuals who are at risk, provides treatment options, and features a special section for health care professionals.
